Please help. I’m trying to set up a Synology RT2600ac router and I’m on fibre with 2degrees but can’t get it to connect. Everything’s plugged in, SSID is set up and I can get into the Network Centre but the internet connection remains disconnected. I’ve entered my username (username@snap.net.nz) and password and the connection type is PPPoE. I’ve spoken to 2degrees and they’ve told me to log in with the details above. They also mentioned VLAN ID should be 10 but I don’t know where this setting is. Needless to say I know next to nothing about routers so would appreciate any help!

Have you done a Google search to make sure that router supports VLAN tagging?

I’ve had a look but it’s all way over my head.

Your router does support VLAN tagging.

Have a look at this forum: Synology RT2600ac on Spark?

have you made sure the device you purchased is fit for the purpose you intend to use it for?

if it is suitable have you looked for guides to help you set it up?

Thanks Sideface. I’ve updated these settings but still not connecting.

Yes and yes Jase, but without any luck so far.

I take it you have the Fritzbox 7490 to test the actual fibre connection is working?

Yes, no problems with the fibre itself.

rhinotago: Yes, no problems with the fibre itself.

So why change off the Fritzbox?

The answer is here.

Yes, it does support VLAN.

Yes, I used the Synology router with 2degrees.

Thanks for responding freitasm. I came across this thread earlier and had set mine exactly the same but it’s still not working. I:
a. have the LAN cable running from WAN1 on the router to GE1 on the Chorus ONT
b. went to router.synology.com and set up the admin details
c. chose PPPoE and signed in with my 2degrees username (‘username’@snap.net.nz) and password
d. opened the Network Centre
e. the Status tab shows as disconnected
f. Went to the Internet tab > ISP Settings(IPTV & VoIP) button
g. checked the Enable IPTV/VoIP box
h. Chose Manual mode
i. Set the VID for ‘LAN 1 (Internet only)’ to 10, Priority 0
j. Left the LAN 3 and 4 settings as they are, i.e. VID: empty, Priority: 0 and Tagging: Untagged

Am I missing anything?

What is step b? Although probably unnecessary as I don't know why you would register on their site, everything else seems OK.

Password for connection is absolutely correct?

Step b is the launch window where you set the admin details and get access to the Network Centre, Control Centre etc.

Regarding password, I thought this may have been the case last night so I went to my 2degrees broadband account and reset the password but this hasn’t made a difference. I’m assuming this is the password that should be used?

I'm sure that password is only used to get into the 2degrees site, Call 2degrees and confirm if I was you!
