is it possible to use the same account in two houses using two routers? I have done it with my mates account before but it used the same exchange box, but this time its going to be using different exchange boxes? will this make a difference?

I'm assuming you're talking about two ADSL accounts, and I believe the answer is no.  When I was with ihug (now vodafone) they only allowed one connection at a time.

I think you used to be able to use the same username on different lines with xtra connections so long as the username and password matched correctly, although they still billed it back to the line and not the username.

You would still have to be paying for some form of broadband on the line at the second house otherwise there will be no dsl connected to it at the exchange. I would be interested in seeing your results.

Would be good to try setting up a basic full speed connection on a second line with a low cap, and if using a different username,
 - would you get charged some sort of fee or
 - would the modem not connect while the first is connected
 - would the data just get added to the account along with the first house's data?

I would hope for the 3rd option because if you use enough data, it may become cheaper to just purchase topup blocks or if with xnet, use most of your data off peak
