Hi guys,

Thanks to @michaelmurphy's Edgerouter guide, I have an ER-X set up to run 200/200 UFB.

Got given one of these Mikrotik router over the weekend and was wondering if anyone is running this on Gigabit fibre (which I am looking to upgrade to later on VF) or if it is even capable of handling it?

If it is capable, then I plan to replace the ER-X with it to save some space in my comms cabinet by getting rid of the 8-port TP link switch and just use the spare ports on the RB2011.

On a slightly different note, which is the more capable router, ER-X or RB2011?

Yes and no.

With fast track enabled it can route Gigabit with 1500 byte packets (https://mikrotik.com/product/RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN#fndtn-testresults) but in the real world with firewall or filter rules and smaller packets the simple answer is no.

The more capable device is the Mikrotik in terms of features etc and in my experience more stable as well.

It will JUST manage on your 200/200 assuming a basic firewall.

But certainly not 1Gbps.

You want a RB750Gr3 or RB4011

Thanks for the response.

By the sounds of it, I won't waste my time on it then, will keep the ER-X running and downgrade its firmware to the previous version to get as close to gigabit speed as I can on it when the upgrade happens
