Hi,

We're in the midst of moving to a new premises and, among other things, are changing to IP CCTV from the analogue we use at the current premises. The proposed NVR will require a PoE switch, current scheme is for 24 x 5MP cameras. According to the specs their max individual draw would be 7.4W.

So I have here a Dell N2024P in good condition and an N6048P. I don't currently have an external PSU for either to run all ports at full power, what I've been trying to determine [with no luck so far] is what the power budget is for either of these switches on the internal PSU only. To date I've only ever seen quoted figures with the external PSU.

My preference would be to have a 48-port switch in the rack as I'm close to hitting the wall on available slots in the proposed new cabinet. I'd want to allow for a few more cameras at most and then to allow for any additional data ports if needed.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these switches in particular or handling managing the power budget of PoE switches as I haven't touched this sort of thing before.

Unfortunately I don't have any PoE devices here with which to test either switch.
