I have an EdgeRouter X setup at parents in place since Jan and it has been crashing intermittently during the night every 7-15 days, a restart at the wall fixes it. They are on Spark UFB.

 

I finally got around to setting up remote syslog to computer on their network and managed to capture the events during the internet drop. Looking at the log I'm struggling to understand if anything is of concern. 

 

Have also made sure that PPPoE is the default route incase it comes back up. Have updated to latest SW 2.0.8 to no avail. 

 

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Hi, you say a restart brings it back up, what if you just drop the WAN interface and bring it back up, ie disconnect the WAN for 20sec then replug in, does it come up?

Yes I have - Last time I was at their place (pre lock down) I tried that and it came back online no problem, though I must admit I didn't check the logs. Maybe I'll ask them to disconnect again to compare logs.

Hi, I have sometimes had PPPoE issues where the session dropped, often to change IP address and not come up. For me this was using a Mikrotik fitted with a Metanoia VDSL SFP module, which seems to be prone to this type of hangup, in this case on the Mikrotik I used the netwatch feature that pings out to 8.8.8.8 or other suitable IP every specified time, if it has a specified number of time outs it runs a script which drop the WAN eth port for 10sec and brings it back up, never had an issue since.

For what its worth I'm using an Edgerouter X on Bigpipe with PPPoE connection and it is rock solid. Months of uptime, since I last powered up. No special tricks. I'm on the most recent firmware before 2.x - if I recall 2.x didn't launch very well so I held off upgrading.

I'm am also running an ERx at our place, voyager UFB and it has been rock solid for months.

 

The part of the log that is concerning me is the "Deleting interface #10 eth0" and "Deleting interface #10 eth0.10" which seems to be leading to the problems. Have found other solutions on ubnt website about scripts to reboot PPPoE using "clear interfaces connection pppoe0". Problem is not sure that will work if there is no eth0 interface. 

 

Going to be a slow process of trial and error if I need to wait 7-10 days for a hang up to trial a solution.
