Vodafone says that fibre isn’t available (according to Chorus).
Chorus says fibre is available (the entire street have had fibre for quite a few years.

Our house is near completion and I feel like I’m acting as a middle man between these two companies, af I’ve spent a lot of time on the phone with both companies.

This is outside the new house.
Is this a fibre cable?

Between each property should be a pale green plastic tag sticking out of the ground with one or two black tubes cable tied to the rear, are there any signs of that in the area.

Or do most other houses have aerial drops.

Are you in Wellington, Christchurch or Kapati? If so, Vodafone push their own cable infrastructure (HFC), as opposed to fiber to the home (UFB)

It’s the water (see photo).
Also, yes definitely pale green so I guess it’s fibre.

Not sure why Vodafone says it’s not available.

We’re not subdividing, but having a new house next to old house on same ground.
Can this cause an issue?
Chorus mentioned that as it’s not subdivided, it’s a second connection to the existing house.

Hi the green conduit I assume is coming from your property and it looks like a two pair copper in it.

What does chorus site say, and what if you try place an order on the spark site.

The green tag I referred to is a flat tag, not conduit

If its a subdivided section the fibre build may not have accounted for it

Looks like a copper lead-in to me... Which could make running fibre a lot easier.

From the photo is really is impossible to know for sure. Easiest way would be to tell us if that black cable is fibre or copper.

Hi, so Saj has kindly advised me via PM of his address, and from there I can clearly see his house (the orginal dwelling on the property) is connected to fibre via an overhead drop on a pole that is probably 1m from the end of the green chorus conduit in the photos and easy digging, ie no paths etc. The new dwelling is right adjacent to the existing one probably 2-3m apart, and on the same piece of land.

The Chorus website says only VDSL is available at the new property and acknowledges the current fibre connection to the original dwelling.

My guess is the grey enclosure on the pole only has one microduct to it, as the existence of a secound dwelling was not known or acknowledged by the fibre build. Adjacent properties are catered for by another pole drop, so my guess is only one microduct is taken to the pole enclosure.

Saj says he will provide more photos of the front of the enclosure later when he is home, this will identify how many ducts are serviced by that enclosure.

Edit: but the way Saj, that green duct from the new property, pretty sure that it will just have an 049 copper cable in it, but this will be used as a draw wire. Assuming the encloure on the pole has or can be added to by Chorus with an extra micro duct then all that needs to happen at installation is the green conduit is extended to the pole and then transistions to white conduit up the pole to the enclosure. Then a new micro duct will be drawn through to the ETP on the side of the new house.

Cheers

Cyril

if the second dwelling isn't correctly subdivided, chorus generally don't allocate a fibre to it.

They did talk about this being a second connection to the existing connection.

Hi was that chorus or voda, are you selling the 2nd dwelling or renting it. It may be easier to have the connection dropped across to you house where it can pickup the 2nd fibre currently not used

It was Chorus who said that it would count and a 2nd connection, as we haven’t subdivided.
We will be renting the old house out.

Best way to do it would be to order a "Additonal ONT" and relocate the second ONT into the second dwelling.

This would be a nightmare for any service moves though, most agents who deal with only resi won't be used to dealing with multiple onts and ensuring they touch the port with correct ONT/asid.

I've seen many landlords abuse the crap out of this though, some even going as far as to run CAT5 from their ONT to the second dwelling and going "you can only order secondary services" - which heavily limits your providers and available services.
