I was looking at my internet usage graph from 2Degrees and began wondering what caused a huge spike (20GB) in "uploads" on the 23rd of Jan...

I have a Unifi USG with some access points and the controller does have some stats and insights but it seems to be mixed in with all the local traffic too. Does anyone have any pointers or links I can look at that explain how to get better internet usage reporting that would help me figure out what was causing the big uptick in uploads usage?

Answer: Not really.

This looks like maybe an Apple device doing a backup - recently replaced any of your devices?

Also unless if you have not got Unlimited data (very rare these days on fixed plans) there is no real point worrying about it. 20GB is not huge especially if it is a mobile device doing a backup. I have upwards of 60gb of photos on my iPhone.

Yeah thanks, it is a good possibility that is the case...
Still would be good to try and figure out how to get better reporting and analysis out of my network. UniFi controller telling me that my Samsung smart TV has uploaded 10GB makes me wonder...

Their traffic stats are quite behind other routers....and certainly much cheaper ones.

You might be able to use insights to see if you can narrow it down to that period, but as you've seen it may muddle lan and wan traffic.

I cant seem to find a chart per device of internet usage anywhere in unifi. Doesnt help that with every update all the stuff is moved around and changed and in some cases fundamentally broken. Really getting sick of their quarter baked beta controllers with massive issues that should have been picked up at alpha or internal testing stages.

Clients, click on the device, statistics, then down the bottom there's a show historicial data.  But it is muddied with LAN and WAN traffic.  Maybe you'll get something better out of it if you have a unifi switch as well, rather than a differing branded one like I have.

No thats just what they pass over the AP, you can get historical charts of everything by AP, and you can get a total breakdown from the DPI per device, but not a mix of the 2 which seems inexcusable.
