Hi People,

Bought this AirLive Wireless Router from a friend which was unused by him.

Connected and the book says the interface is 192.168.1.254

The username/password box comes up and i enter "airlive" for both as per the instructions

and a message comes up "the site is Slingshot".. im thinking.. what the hell does slingshot have to do with anything here???

Hit the reset, but i don't feel anything "click" just feels like im hitting a wall.. gave it a decent push with my phone's stylus.. the lights didn't seem to flicker any differently.

my old wireless router was an smc barricade being fed by a d-link 502t.. when that's connected.. you can surf immediately.. the smc would feed 3 laptops via wireless, an htc titan and a wired pc... absolutely no problems.. when i connected the airlive off the dynalink.. i couldn't surf and thats when i tried to enter the console and hence the resulting error message.

Dynalink to the pc is fine no problems, can access the web interface fine.

Regardsless of whether im using the dlink or dynalink modem.. the airlive still says "the site is slingshot"  when i put in airlive for the username and password.
any ideas anyone.. much appreciated.. racking my brains over this one

cheers!

Edit: reconnected my dlink 502t and get the following:

internet, access to 502t web interface, the airlive web login still says:

""a username and password were requested from 192.168.1.254: the site says slingshot."

I have looked at other posts very similar in nature and it's noted to go into the web interface of the router to make changes.. i cant even do that and it's a real headache!

looking in the dlinks interface.. it says there are 2 lan clients:

my pc as 10.1.1.3
the router named as "slingshot" as 10.1.1.2

clicking on the networking icon on my pc shows the following:

192.168.1.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.1.254
dhcp server 192.168.1.254
dns server 192.168.1.254

Hi Steve, you are probably best to use the Airlive as simply a AP (ie not go via the WAN port) as described in this recent thread, however you will need to access the AirLive to both migrate its IP to the ADSL modems space and turn off its DHCP server.

Hi Cyril,

Thanks for your prompt reply! I have seen your suggestion in the thread that you mentioned and it seems easy to do so will do that asap.

It's the access to the Airlive's web interface that causing the most fustration. The dlink says " a username and password is being asked for dsl-205t"

The Airlive says "a username and password are being requested by 192.168.1.254. the site is Slingshot" i enter airlive/airlive as per the manual but the page just refreshes with the same message,

any ideas how to get past this part?

thanks heaps in advance!

Cheers

Steve

Yep, cascading routers is a big no-no. Google 'cascaded routers' for more info.

But as i said in that thread, if the modem supports half bridge, which in this case it does, isnt it better to half bridge the modem and run it via the WAN port?
Providing you can get past the router login of course.

Yes the 1320 can be half bridged, however you assume the airlinks NAT router is better than the 1320, as Airlink is a very budget product that may not be the case.

Double NAT and Half Bridge both can work fine as long as you set them up correctly.  Half Bridge is obviously better having traffic go through NAT once and only having to forward ports once (if you're not using upnp).

You need to find out the login to the web ui for the AirLive from your friend, they obviously changed it from default (most people do).  Alternatively you can factory reset the device unfortunately most air lives don't have the hardware reset type button most devices do and you might have to do it via connecting to the console port.

What model # AirLive is it?

Hi Ragnor, it's a WL-1500R.

It's strange because normally the reset is something that clicks or gives confirmation that youve definitely reset the devise.. this i put my stylus in and it fellt like it was hitting something solid .. not springy..

connecting to the console port.. can you please explain how to do that?

Cheers
