I just purchased a new wifi 6 router (ASUS RT-AX58U) and am thinking about NOT using it as the primary router but as a 2nd access point to maximise wifi signal in my home as this router is supposed to have good range.

Instead I would use a FRITZ Box 7490 as the primary router

What are the cons of doing this, do newer routers have better routing/modem functionality?

Can I have the FRITZ 7490 connected to the ONT but have the ASUS manage all routing functionality - is there any benefit?

More detail about my setup below:

The layout of my property is not very conducive for good wifi signal.

The ONT is near the front of the house, the router here is connected to the ONT, lets call this point 1F - I have my PC and work stuff (laptop, printer) connected to this router via Lan cable.

I have a 2nd router connected via lan cable to 1F located in the middle of the house, lets call this 2C - I have my TV, HTPC, receiver, Nvidia Shield connected via lan and most of our tablets/phones connect via wireless.

And a 3rd router connected via wifi to 2C to extend the signal to the end of the property, lets call this 3E - only a few phones/tablets connect via wifi.

My plan is to have:

FRITZ Box 7490 as 1F

ASUS RT-AX58U as 2C - this will be in the centre of the home so will be able to cover most of the property (hopefully)

Fritz Box 7390 as 3E - will be connected via wifi to the ASUS RT_AX58U to reach the far end of the property.
