With most ISP's now shooting their settings down the line to the router, what happens if you change to a different, non-ISP supplied router?

 

Is manual set up required, or does the ISP automatically recognise router brands?

Also most of the time considering most providers have mesh kits and actually decent routers there normally isn’t any need to replace them.

I always tell people to use the ISP provided router unless if they’ve got a very good reason not to.

Settings may not change but I’ve also seen providers putting services over IPv6 only for example. Those who use third party routers on residential plans may have their service break at any time.
