Hello

I have a GWN7630 on fw 1.0.23.22 as a master

I have linked a GWN7610 on fw 1.0.23.22 as a slave

If I look in the status of the two devices (Access Points - Status), the GWN7610 doesn't appear to be broadcasting on 5G.

If I look in Mesh config

I see some suggestion of connection using 5G.

But no clients are using the AP other than a reolink camera on 2.4ghz

Any ideas?

It's using 5GHz as the mesh backhaul.

So clients wont be able to communicate on it?

Its dedicated the 5G signal for the connectivity between the APs?

Correct, some mesh systems let you use the 5GHz band for backhaul and clients but bandwidth is halved, GS choose the other option to dedicate 5Gz for backhaul, of the two evils, it's the better option in my opinion. Regardless wireless mesh is nasty, run a cabled backhaul, problem goes away.

The slave can only broadcast on 2.4 GHz because its 5 GHz radio is tied up receiving from the master. As @cyril7 says though, it's less than ideal for performance - whether you call it wireless mesh (mess?) wifi extender or repeater it's the same basic thing and should be replaced with a cable wherever it's reasonably possible.

Thanks for that information! I have removed the AP now, as it was deemed unnecessary and not what I understood mesh to behaviour like.

All good, was more playing.

Cheers
