I'm looking at updating my setup (UDM + AP AC HD) and wondering about the maturity of WiFi 7 and whether it is stable at this point - I'm looking at getting an UDR 7 and Unifi U7 Pro, wondering whether anyone has had any experience with them, my devices are a mixture of WiFi 6/6E and 7.

The U7-Pro has had complaints about 2.4GHz performance with IoT devices, supposedly its better in latter firmware.

Personally I've got a couple of U7-Pro-XG's on order, not much more than the U7-Pro. As for the maturity of Wi-Fi 7 - you'll be lucky to find many devices. I'm only upgrading for our new build. I'd expect them to last 5 years or so.

The U7-Pro in our office gave a reasonable amount of grief with both 2.4ghz IoT devices and 6GHz traffic (newer mobile phones) in the second half of 2024, to the point that I disabled the 6Ghz radio. I re-enabled it in February, and we've had no issues at all. I put that down to firmware maturity.

I have a U7-Pro - Currently have a TP-Link Tapo C720 @2.4, an old Sky box (black) @2.4 , my Asus Wifi 7 laptop @6 and Samsung S23 @6 so far with no issues.

Your can disable the sky box, the black sky decoders don't have on demand any more. There's no reason to leave it connected.

I use it for testing - Generally its my worst case scenario device, if it connects to anything nothing else will have a problem sort of thing (caveat - rule thumb - not remotely scientific)

Thank you for the advice, anyone suggest a good reseller because GoWifi has been out of stock for ages and PB Tech don't have it in stock - I did see Google bring up https://thetechgeeks.co.nz however given the typo "New Zealnd and Overseas" it raised alarm bells.

I’ve had the original UDR which I think was wifi 6.
I’d avoid it like the plague. Hopefully the UDR7 is better but my unit would crash constantly and require a hard reboot by removing the power cable. Seemed to be relatively common from what other online posts I found.
I ended up replacing this with a UCG Ultra, a little switch and separate AP.

in terms of reseller, pick your poison. But I’d also avoid PBTech if you care about after sales support haha The UDR I got from them was returned in the last week of January. The refund was allegedly processed last week and failed, and they’re trying again today. Their RMA department is woefully inept or understaffed.

Ubiquiti stock levels are terrible across the board on newer equipment.

I've ordered several things from The Tech Geeks. They're not cheap but they often have stock when others don't and their support was excellent.

My research is a few of months old, so things may have changed.

Original U7 pro had serious issues. I was looking at TP-Link instead. They have subsequently released a new hardware version "SWX-U7PROP", which was hoped to resolve these issues. I haven't checked reviews of the new hardware, but it has been out for ~4 months now, so should have lots of reviews.

Advise buying from somewhere that you can take a look at the box and ensure it is a SWX-U7PROP before purchasing. (I think they are both sold as U7 Pro, it is it just luck which version your vendor has in stock).

Can't comment on the UDM as I was planning to run the Cloud gateway fiber (and dedicated AP's)

I have ordered a fair bit from them , no issues and fairly fast shipping to ChCh.

Thank you for all the feedback, I ended up getting: UXG Max and U7 Pro Max - everything is going well so far. I've setup using the free 30 day cloud trial but I've got a Cloudkey on order at which point I'll cancel the 30 day free trial and move the devices over to that.

@lxsw20 who have you got it on order with? I'm having trouble finding the U7 Pro XG in New Zealand, but need to replace a UAP-AC-PRO which isn't up to the job for some things now.

sometimes a typo is just a tipo. I have brought plenty from these guys, you will be OK.

IIRC Go Wireless and Ingram Micro are the two proper Unifi distys in NZ - anyone else is a reseller or parallel importing.
