i have been toying with wifi for a while guys , reason being my boy has a pc now upstairs , the mrs has a pc and i have a pc , me and the mrs are already networked via a adsl router and conventional wired networking but to get the boy net access wifi seemed the way to go until i started to get interested in BT

i have a few questions that i need answering though please guys

a... would a blue tooth dongle connected to my boys pc upstairs and one to my pc give him reasonable net access , if its even possible via my adsl networked pc

b.... what BT dongle would be advisable to get , as after reading around some dont work and have problems with certificates , i dont want that hasstle , i want to buy something with an informed choice , so advice from u guys would be great

c.....what sort of speeds does BT run at , which i suppose would be directly translated to the net sharing with my boy

and also i have a ipaq 2210 BT and a nokia 6230 BT so the BT dongle attached to my Pc would need to be compatable with those as well

oh and another thing is it possible to control your pc from the pda , such as if my tv card was enabled on my pc dektop would i be able to watch telly on the pda via the BT ? or am i getting way ahead of myself ( would be dead handy though )

sorry if some of these questions seem stupid , but i am just entering the BT realm

thanks for any advice

Gil

If you want to cover larger areas (like rooms upstairs) then you probably have to use Wi-Fi. Bluetooth is a personal area network technology and as such it's designed to give best performance in small areas. Think of it as something to be used up to 10m (which is its range). There are 100m adapters, but for the price it would be better to get a wireless Accesspoint and a wireless PCI card or even a wireless LAN USB adapter for your computers.

As for the PDA and phone, you can still go ahead and get a 10m Bluetooth adapter to allow synchronisation. Your Pocket PC will be able to synchronise over Bluetooth and access the Internet with proper configuration (check our Bluetooth Guides).

As per watchin live video on your Pocket PC, you will have to install Windows Media Encoder and capture the video and make it available as a stream, then use Windows Media to connect to the server (your computer) and watch it. There are some configuration here too.
