Hello members,

Some 5 years or so ago we switched provider to a local ISP and they supplied the Mikrotik router(rb960) and the cAP ac's. I bought the gear outright and got it installed.

Compared to a Fritzbox, which I was used to, it is a different world. I never got proper grips of it and wonder if I could replace it with something else.I sold my old Fritzboxes.

What would be a different brand/type which is a bit easier to understand and still would work with their system? It is a home/office network with a couple of network drives and an RPI. May consider to get a little NAS/server in the future.

Just now trying to setup and Immich server on the RPI, hence all the network questions come up.

Would be nice to hear about options.

TIA

First question is whether the MikroTik gear is specifically set up for that ISP, particularly if it's a local WISP. That may factor what you can't and can change.

Then, what's wrong with MikroTik - too hard, or specific config/performance issues?

If it's wifi related, the cAP AC should be able to use the wifi-qcom-ac package which gives a bunch more options for config.

If you're looking for easier config for wifi, then Grandstream are pretty rock solid and reasonably priced.

If you use TailScale there is very little to configure but is there something in particular that's tripping up your Immich setup using another option? https://docs.immich.app/guides/remote-access/

We do the mikrotik router, with grandstream APs for our structured wifi customers.
The reason for not giving up on the mikrotik is they are incredibly useful for remote troubleshooting. Nothing else matches their capabilities.
