Has anybody successfully configured an Airport Express to an ADSL modem (PPPoA) with the Airport Express providing DHCP, NAT and wireless functions?

I'm trying to do this but not having any success. I cannot get an internet connection up and running which I suspect is because the Airport Express only supports PPPoE? If my ISP (Orcon) supported this I May have some success.

Any ideas/comments?

PPPoA is bridged by very few modems, so its better to not try and bridge it but infact setup the AP to be simply a layer2 AP and turn off its DHCP server and act as a simple AP.

Thanks Cyril,

I was hoping to use the Airport's Nat-PMP function to access "Back to my Mac". I guess there's no way of having my Siemens router doing most of the work (DHCP etc) but the Airport providing NAT function.

Hi unfortunately very few modems will bridge PPPoA, as such you are left to your ADSL modem to provide this. Most modems that support uPNP will support Back to my Mac.

I have two modems here that I have tried - a Siemens SX763 (Orcon Home Hub) & DLink DSL-504T. Both have uPNP enabled but no luck with BTMM. Perhaps there's something else. It worked OK with World Exchange, but no-go since Orcon..

If its any help, I have an Apple Airport Express but I leave the DHCP and NAT functions to the Netgear router. The Airport Express just provides the wireless capability in bridged mode. It works perfectly with just one exception - I need to reconfigure the Airport Express about every two or three weeks for some reason. Not sure why.

Other than that, it works very well - just plug it into a spare power point and connect it to the ADSL modem/router. The big advantage is that if you go away, you just take the Airport express with you and plug it into the hotel port and off you go. If you let it handle more than the basic wireless functions it gets more complicated to move it around.

Thanks Mike - problem is I need the Airport Express to provide DHCP and NAT-PMP functions, which it can't do in bridge mode. I think it will just have to power the speakers in the kitchen!
