Ok so i work at a cafe and ive been asked to look into a wireless network for customers to use.

I've had a fair amount of experence with wifi and networking so thats not a problem i'd just like to know of
any programs to use as the monitering software/to control useage etc....

I've come across antamedia.com a fair amount in my searchs and the price isn't a biggy but just before i got ahead i thought i'd get your opinions/ideas

...any links, comments, questions or ideas would be helpful!

Thanks,
Nathan

Honestly for a basic cafe setup use Tomizone or Zenbu, saves you having to have much hardware or software to make it work, downside is that they take some of the earnings, but then they do look after the backend for you.

Cheers
Cyril

Ok kind of changes the topic but if we changed to the idea of free wireless internet just to bring customers in
what would you do to limite the dodgy guy next door at 2am downloading or whatever you think hes doing??

I know it changes the topic but im just exploring my options

You could change the password every day and then have it print out on the POS receipt? That way only your customers can get online.

Plus limit the speed to like 300k per person or something, that will be enough for browsing the net but should keep out anyone leeching with big downloads, as they will only be able to do around 150mb in an hour or whatever.

Make sure you change the password at the end of the day so the 2 am guy doesn't manage to get his hand on a receipt out of the rubbish bin!

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

As suggested: Zenbu or Tomizone.

Put the router on a switch so you turn it off when you go home would be easier if its just 2am people that are a problem, for daytime lingereres outside then there are plenty of details on doing captive portals on wrt type routers but really for the time it takes and having to deal with tards that cant work it and staff who know even less then a commercial solution is the only way to go.

The idea of free wifi is certainly attractive, however, if I had to buy a coffee first to get some online time, I'd be more than happy to do that.  I may even buy a couple if I'm there for an extended period of time.

I'd also recommend Tomizone, however if you want to roll out your own solution, why not try this product from Dynalink - it's designed to do exactly what you're after.

I used Antamedia very successfully a few years back for a site that had 50+ users online at once. Its a very solid product, accurate and easy to use. Its good if you want to control the site, change package make-up etc. but you need to buy a computer, keep it running etc. to do this.

Tomizone/Zenbu is probably good if you don't want to put too much effort into this.
