I have a Toshiba e830 and I'm trying to get it to work with a GPS receiver and OnCourse Navigator 4. I have no problem getting the e830 to see the GPS receiver but for some reason the GPS software can't see the receiver.

I contacted the GPS software vendor and the reply stated that Toshiba uses a custom BT stack and they don't support it.

Is there anyway to install the standard Microsoft BT stack on my PPC? This is quite frustrating as I though BT was a standard!!

Toshiba was no help, they simply said to contact Microsoft to get the drivers! Tried that, but no luck.

Can anyone kelp me with this or is there any other suggestions that I can try to get this combination to work!

Thanks

I think the Toshiba support is simply being rude. First there's no way to install the Microsoft Bluetooth stack on this hardware (although some other forums have patched the software to install in other Pocket PC models, with some instability issues).

If you haven't done so yet, I suggest you manually connect the Toshiba to your GPS. Remember, simply installing the GPS software will not automatically connect to the GPS. You have to tell the Pocket PC what device to connect. I don't have a Toshiba e830 here now, but I remember you have to "register" a connection before using it, like in the screenshot below from our review:

Once you have manually connected and found what COM port is assigned to this connection, then you should start the GPS software and select that COM port to use.

Of course there's the possibility that the Bluetooth software is really completely unsupported. In this case nothing much can be done - but I don't think it's the case.

Thank you for your speedy reply.

I have registered the GPS device on the e830 and it's set for com 6. I input the pin number as 0000 and it appears correctly in the e830 as BT GPS with the service name of SPP slave. So the Toshiba sees the GPS receiver but the software can't connect to it even though I've set the GPS peramiters in the software correctly as com 6, baud rate 9600. As mentioned the software developer said that the e830 is not supported and that they have no intentions of supporting it as the device is not marketed in the USA or Western Europe (the BIG markets). So much for Toshiba, basically they're being ignored.

Regards, Brian
