I'm trying to get my iPAQ (H5450) to connect to my PC for ActiveSync and Internet Access. I just plain can't get it working at all. Can anyone give me a run down of the steps to go through.

My PC uses ICS for sharing the internet access and I'm using an AdHoc WiFi network.

thanks

I take you've had a look in our checklist?

Anyway, you say you're using ICS. Are you using it for Internet Sharing other than to your Bluetooth adapter?

Other machines in your network with IP 192.168.0.1?

Any personal firewall activated in your host machine?

I'm not actually using Bluetooth, I'm using the built in 802.11b adapter in AdHoc mode...

If you are using Pocket PC 2002 you need to go into Settings | Connections. From there you need to change the network card connection from "Internet" for web surfing to "Work" for ActiveSync.

It's a real annoyance to have to do this.

Hi C,

I can't help you with the Internet access, but I can tell you how I got ActiveSync working with my setup (Laptop with Wi-Fi PCMCIA card, running ActiveSync 3.6).

1. Under Settings/System/About/Device ID, change the name to something other than the default 'POCKET_PC'.

2. Set up a partnership with the laptop using the cradle.

3. Run the Wi-Fi configuration software on the laptop. Create a profile with mode = 'ad hoc', SSID = 'activesync', Channel = '10', WEP Encryption off.

4. Run the WLAN manager on the h5450. Create a profile with the same settings. (In fact the settings can be anything, as long as they're the same on both devices)

5. Disable the firewall on the laptop. (I haven't yet figured out what ports/services I need to enable.)

6. Run ActiveSync on the laptop. Make sure that, on the screen that specifies how the devices connect (I think the first option is USB, second is serial port?), third option is selected.

7. Run ActiveSync on the h5450. Press the green icon. Unlike using the cradle, using Wi-Fi will NOT automatically start syncing.

I hope this helps. If you need any further assistance, you'll need to be a bit more specific than "just plain can't get it working at all".
