I currently have my desktop PC connected to the net using a D-link DSL-502T.I want to connect my PS3,which is in my converted garage,approx 25m away,through 2walls,across the yard,and through another wall.What is the easiest/cheapest way to do this?If I cable it it will be a hassle-Fish ponds,paths,etc.Know nothing about wireless?Was wondering about a Netcomm NP201an,but a bit worried about the "in phase" part of the connection,as shed is on a completely different circuit?Thanks Hopefully!Gazza the confused...

if the two circuits are isolated from each other (not in the same phase) then it power over ethernet won't work.

You will need to go down the wireless path i think. So you need to buy two wireless access points and configure them in bridge mode.

From a technical viewpoint, cabling is the easy option, just plug it into both devices are your done. However looking at the specs of the 502T it only has one Ethernet port no wireless built in, so whatever you do, you wil have to buy something.

If you do choose wireless, then you will have to buy a wireless access point, or maybe just a new modem/switch/access point combo, which most units now-days are. Then you will have to make sure you can get the signal the required distance; 25m is not far but with lots of things in the way you may not get a signal without boosting it via a 3rd party antenna, or adding a wireless repeater, which is more money. Then you need to configure wireless security (preferably WPA2 but WPA will do) on both the PS3 and the wireless access point, and all should work.

If you go wired, then a switch is all you need to buy, and enough Ethernet cable to get to the other end and around all the things in the way. Note - Cat5 cable is not weatherproof as per another recent thread on geekzone, but it will last a while (1 year???) when exposed.

If you plan on streaming content from your PC to your PS3 then cable will be better, espcially when trying to stream video.

Either way it sound like a bit of work to get it working over the distance and through all the objects in the middle.

I have my PS3 connected to my network via Cat5e through a gigabit switch, and never have any problems.

So if I try wireless,can I buy a cheap 4-port modem that supports wireless g,and try it,then buy an extra antenna if it doesn't?

yeah just grab a PCI wifi card for the other computer.

No, you won't need the PC to be wireless. Simply connect the PC to the wireless router using a cable and connect the PS3 to the router via wireless.
