Before I am describing my problem just a brief overview of my BT settings. I use a EPOX BT stick that runs on XP/SP2 on the XP drivers that SP2 provides. No installation of any BT software/drivers that came with the stick.

..... now for the trouble

My idea is to host a PAN on my IPaq where other clients (such as the XP desktop) can join and share files etc. This is because I can send files from the desktop (via click in the systray on "send file"); then my IPay takes notice of that request and ask me if I want to accept the file. But the other way round it does not work.

When I click in the systray on "receive file" the dsktop is waiting for the bt device to react on that request .... but it does not work.

Strictly speaking, I have got two problems. One that I cannot send receive files from the IPaq when kicked off from the desktop.

And the other one is the trouble with the PAN. I hosted the PAN on my IPaq and clicked on "join PAN" in the systray ..... no result.

Would anybody please tell me, what to do (activate special service on he IPaq/Desktop?)

Thank you

With some Bluetooth software service discovery is not automatic. I don't use the Windows XP SP2 Bluetooth, but I'd say you have to first pair the devices (which seems you have already done) and then discover the services - on the device list on your computer (open the Bluetooth icon on Control Panel).

Also, make sure the Bluetooth on your iPAQ is configured to accept connections - best option is to make it accept without Authorization, but with Authentication required.

I believe to have created a PAN on my desktop ... at least 'Network Connections' under the control Panel say so. But it does not show up on the IPaq that still prevents me from sending files from the IPaq to any other member within the PAN.

How exactly do I discover the bt services my desktop offers? Where can I find the "Bluetooth Neighbourhood" (is this only provided by Widcomm drivers?).

Thankyou for any assitance.

As I said I haven't used the SP2 Bluetooth software,. The way you say you have the PAN created it sounds like it's not connected. Do you have an icon on the system tray indicating a cable disconnected? Remember, the Bluetooth connection is manual, so it will not automatically connect every time.

Gulliver03 have you seen "How to install and configure Bluetooth devices in Windows XP Service Pack 2"? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;883259

In particular the section: "Joining a Personal Area Network".
