I continue working my way around BT and its various profiles. Now I have got a question concerning PAN. Whenever I start a PAN I see the message in the system tray of my desktop that a network ip is in the process of being obtained (something like 169.254.xxx.xxx .... very strange when compared to the common ip range 192.168.xxx.xxx ... but so it be).

What exactly is this IP ...... is it the IP of the bt dongle or is it the IP of my IPAQ. I also have noticed that I cannot access a shared drive via my IPAQ until the IP is obtained.

Thanks for any explanation.

If you're using LAP then you should get 192.168.0.xxx, but on PAN it will depend on your network, DHCP server, etc.

I recommend using the free VxUtil on your Pocket PC to check what IP address it's receiving.
