As many of you have seen on the front page for the last number of days was an News item that asked will VoIP kill of mobile phone companies? Well, the answer is yes.

Now, whoever makes the comments for this website, claimed that nothing is for free. Well, of course I know that, I am trained in accountancy. Yes, you did get that right I am the author of the article. What that person didn't know is that article is part of a series and a second one is already published and on the web. The second article is an extensive examination of the ins and outs. I also took a shot at the US Telecommunications industry with a unique legal challange. Well, it was worth a try. It will also be released by several other websites including newmobilecomputing.com on Monday.

For those interest in the technology as well as beginning your own business venture, have a look at the two articles now available:

The Death of the Mobile Phone Carrier

Hello, Mark and welcome!

Thanks for your notes... For our readers, the comments Mark is referring to are on this article I posted here on Geekzone related to his article on newmobilecomputing (which I ask you to visit because it's a cool website with good news and articles .

My view is that VoIP is going to move the power from one kind of network based on cells to another type of network, based on mesh, with a more distributed infrastructure. The problem is that accountability, reliability, service levels, etc will be guaranteed by big companies, perhaps the current mobile carriers turned into different entities - but still charging and managing the whole thing.

As per Mark comments, please visit the other parts of the article to have a complete idea of his vision.

A good example of networks already trying things in a more "connected" state is in this article about British Telecom using VoIP over Bluetooth with Sony Ericsson P800. Also networks like RoamAd who plans to deliver a seamless roaming infrastructure between cellular based networks (GPRS) and wi-fi.

Thanks Freitasm,

As it will be seen in the third article, this project is based on the communitywireless.org principles. In terms of accountabilty, reliability, service levels, etc we expect this to be maintained by the local community. . This is not a problem as the profit margins essentially allow anyone to break-even within the first twelve months and provide complete access for all.

We will place the system in the hands of a charity, basically, this will exclude big business from the system completely. Not only that, but we are not subject to any form of anti-competitive legeslation

In the third article, we have another shock coming, we have clarified the cost of implementation of the system for those seeking investors. Not only this but we will be releasing the full details of the routers, software and deployment timetable. This VoIP system is not just a dream, but a reality that is less than 18 months from deployment.

The telecoms industry does not have much longer left and cannot compete against local communities pooled together under a single global charity. By having a single charity structure, investors can be assured of the commitment to the project and return on their investments are guarenteed. In addition, purchasing costs can be dramatically reduced and a unified approach maintained globally.

So if you feel like helping out, goto communitywireless.org, click on discussion Index and select 'New Projects'.

Hope to see you all there.
