I have a brand spanking new IPAQ5555, running PPC2003, laptop running W2000, USB Bluetooth dongle.

I can connect my IPAQ & PC, share files etc. No problem.

I cant connect to the internet though. I have set up the internet sharing on W2000 OK, my IPAQ / laptop are paired. So, I go through the connection wizard & select connect to the internet through another bluetooth dvice, I select my laptop but it fails to establish the bluetooth connection with error 0x810000196.

Any ideas anyone ?

I've seen your post on the usenet about this problem... There you also add that you already have a 192.168.0.1 address on your desktop, required by your cable connection.

If this is the case, you can't use ICS. You'll have to use a third-party product. Winrouter Lite will do just as well. Try it and let us know the results.

Thanks .... have since found out that I followed the wrong instructions on my Bluetooth set up & I didnt need to have the 192...... IP address at all, so I have removed that.

Does my bluetooth adapter need to have that IP address in it somewhere ?

Yes, you'll need 192.168.0.1 on your Bluetooth adapter.

Sorry, but I am still stuck. I have set my bluetooth adapter on W2k for internet sharing, under general I have the IP address as 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0

This seems OK as my broadband connection works OK so there is no conflict.

I go to my IPAQ to establish a connection for the IPAQ / Laptop network services & a bluetooth active connection is up & running. I then use the connection wizard to connect to a device that is on the internet, i.e. my laptop. Then I get my 0x81 message.

I cant follow the set up rules in the bluetooth guide exactly as PPC2003 is different.

Any more ideas ?

JP, when you say "I have set my bluetooth adapter on W2k for internet sharing", does it mean you've enabled Sharing from your Bluetooth? If this is the case you have to change. The sharing is from the adapter connected to the internet to the Bluetooth adapter.

I'm waiting for the HP updates to come out so I can post more guides, based on WM2003...

I have 2 adapters in my network connections, 'bluetooth network' and 'local area connection'.

LAN connection:

Sharing clicked; under 'settings', nothing in applications or services (entered or 'ticked)
On the TCP/IP component properties; obtain TCP/IP & DNS server address automatically;

Bluetooth connection:

Sharing NOT clicked; 'settings' is greyed out
On the TCP/IP component properties; use following ip address 192.168.0.1; subnet mask 255.255.255.0 ; nothing under DNS server address

If I change my LAN connection to 192.168.0.1 my internet connection stops working so I cant do that.

What's next ? Thanks again, much appreciated ..... JP

Was wondering, are my laptop settings (two posts above this) correct ? If so, I still cant connect, what else may be wrong ?

Have got my Ipaq & phone talking via bluetooth for internet connection, well useful.

Your configuration on the Bluetooth is almost correct. Leave it as 192.168.0.1, but add the DNS servers from your ISP.

On a CMD window (Window key + R) run ipconfig /all and check what's the IP your ethernet card (the real one) receives when connected to the internet.

Thanks Mauricio, will try that when I get home tonight.

As I said, managed to get internet access via BT & mobile phone which is cool. Have noticed a problem with Pocket IE though. Through standard internet connections I can connect with my office MS Outlook Web Access server for work emails. I can get to this via my ipaq (screen is a little small though !!). I can get in to my inbox, but you cant actually open any emails ? The link for each item in my inbox just doesnt work. Single / double tap does nothing; tap & hold gives
a dialogue box with 'select all text; add to favourites; refresh frame; go to frame'

I might check the MS web site & see what it says ...... JP

OK, latest instalment !!

When I run ipconfig, I get the following ....

If you do an ipconfig /all you'll see what's the DNS used by Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection.

Copy these values to your Bluetooth connection and try again. I'll have a PPC 2003 today to review and will place some more guides for this version.

^^^This is all you want. adding the default gateway here will break ICS. (DH)

JP go here www.cam.com/vxUtil.html and get the free utility vxUtil. Run this and look at your Bluetooth PAN User Driver. Post what you see for it if any thing.

From today screen |Bluetooth (icon)| Bluetooth Manager | New | Connect! | Next | | When you tap there it should do a search an find your pc. tap the PC icon. | Network Access | Next | Finish |

This should get you a bluetooth icon on the Bluetooth manager screen does it?

fantastic ..... success ! On my IPAQ Bluetooth manager I now have an outgoing connection to my laptop for network access. But being a complete duffer, I am now stuck at the next step.

With this Bluetooth connection to my laptop established, I start internet explorer only to find that it tries to connect via my Bluetooth GPRS phone (have got that bit working OK).

I presume that I need a new connection for the bluetooth / laptop / internet connection ?

My options for connections are as follows:

My ISP
Add a new modem connection
Manage existing connections
[I have an existing connection in here called GPRS, this connects via Bluetooth to my GPRS phone for mobile internet access]

My Work Network
Add a new modem connection
Add a new VPN server connection
Set up my proxy server

Any more ideas as to how I set that up ?

Ok I would suggest that you go here: http://www.cam.com/vxutil_pers.html and get vxUtil then post the results, of what this shows for your Bluetooth connection. It could be that you don't have ICS setup correctly on your PC. If it is not configured correctly you can get the same login screen.

Do you know if it is actually trying to use your cell-phone? Hmm, I don't like the cost of cell phone connections where I live, so I don't have one. I do have a 802.11b connection and a modem connection. It seems smart enough to use the 802.11b connection first, then if it can't connect there to try the modem. I would think it would be the same with Bluetooth, as it is treated as a network card.
