I noticed in another thread that you're looking for the Widcomm drivers to use with the MS BT transceiver. Obviously, some vendors (e.g. D-Link) have released 1.4.1 Build 6; however, each hardware vendor partnered with Widcomm is requiring a security key (typically tied to the MAC of each adapter) to protect their investment, expenses, etc.

I don't believe you'll find any legal, legitimate links for a non-secured build. I've noted some attempts at hacking the security. Outside of the legal and licensing issues, looking for this type of solution may be more trouble/hassle than it's worth.

My suggestion is to find an adapter with the drivers that will provide the profiles/services (i.e. 1.4) that you require for the devices that you're linking. D-Link's adapter is a possibility and its cost is very reasonable (under $USD 50). Also, note the review of MS' bluetooth keyboard/mouse with the TDK adapter on this site.

. Chrismax is right in his posting. The drivers are not "sold" exactly, but each vendor puts some effort and resource in terms of testing, documentation, customisation of these drivers, from a reference design.

Because some manufacturers don't put anything at all they don't offer upgrades and support. So, the ones that do are now protecting their investment by making it required to have an identification to make sure users have their hardware before using the software.

That's why so many posts on cracking the security. When vendors notice that mny are downloading the drivers they move the files around, or enhance security.

Version 1.4 only adds support for HID (mouse, keyboard and joystick). LAN and other areas are not improved, so there is no need to rush and upgrade, really. If you need it now follow Chrismax advice and get a DLINK. If you can wait I suggest getting a TDK or Bluetake. I have some personal reservations on DLINK.

Was interested in your thoughts or observations on the DBT-120. I've been extremely pleased with both its performance as well as D-Link's support. Do you have any feedback on issues reported on this adapter to the contrary?

I never used the DLINK product (I can e-mail in private if you want to know why), but I know it works ok. I've seen reports that their latest drivers version 1.4 were released with a bug where all network connections always require confirmation - even if you check "Always allow" on the host system.

To be fair this bug existed on TDK 1.4.1 beta, but I've reported this and TDK says it's fixed (they now have 1.4.10 beta but I don't have it). So I guess DLINK was first on the market with the new drivers but missed some testing.

FYI, to solve the problem I've found a registry key that control it - probably the installer does not update the key correctly.

I appreciate the quick response! Since I presently only use SPP, DUN, Fax & Headset (soon HID) profiles/services and not using LAN Access, I haven't run into this authorization problem for LAN. I am in the process of acquiring a new PDA with Bluetooth so I'll update the site on my progress and the DBT-120.

mauricio: I'm just about to buy TDK PCMCIA go blue card, when do you think the new 1.4.* BT drivers will be out ?

I'm buying after I'm totaly dissatisfied with my present socket BT card, the reason I had it were two, at the time beeing it was the only card that worked with nokia cell phones (by meaning PC suite) and as the only PCMCIA/CF solution it was exactly the same size as regular CF card so nothing was "outside" of my laptop

but since socket didn't update windows drivers for so long I decided to jump over .. and after reading couple of reviews I decifed to go for TDK

I don't have any information on when the TDK 1.4 will be out - it was supposed to be last June. The problem is that they're going through testing and certification and it's taking long.

The best drivers you can have these days are the version 1.3.2.19 (available on their website for their products).

The only thing 1.4 brings more in terms of functionality is support for JHID (mouse, keyboard). If you don't have these devices, get the TDK PC card and stay with 1.3 for now.

Other alternative with 1.3 support is the Bluetake BT100S-PLUS Compact Flash we reviewed here on Geekzone. To use this on a laptop/desktop you only need a CF - PC adapter (around US$5). We running a giveway for this card until 28th September here in our competitions page...
