greetings from innsbruck, austria!

as you can see i am quite new here, nevertheless i hope that you can help me with my problem (haven't found anything that quiet matches my problem via the search function)

i just bought a EPoX BT-GD02 Dongle and installed it on my PC (W2k, SP2) at home. the installation worked just fine and everything seemd to be ok.

after the reboot i entered the BT-Manager, and here i strted wondering the first time:
- at work (also W2k, SP2) the computername was already inserted, at home i had to do this myself (actually no problem, but even when i save the settings and then get back to the BT Manager, the settings have not been saved)

- next step: local services: nothing!!! there are no local services i can choose from, no PIMSync, no Headset, noNetwork access,.... nothing
at work: everythin fine!

- anyway, put my Siemens S55 on BT > home PC started searching > found my S55 and i even got to pair them - but this doesn't really help, since i have NO services available
then i let the S55 search "the surroundings" > found nothing

i don't really know how often i installed and de-installed the WIDCOMM 1.3.2.7 Software, i think after round 20 i gave up counting.
result always the same: no Service available!!!!!!!!

i am not sure if have forgotten something in my small problem-report, and hope that i provided sufficient information.
i also checked the "Bluetooth Guides" on this page, but they don't really help me.

would be more than thankful if somebody could give me some tips and hints. (that i can't connect to my S55 doesn't really bother me, but i am getting a new iPAQ 2210 on saturday, and i would love to connect to my Home-PC via BT, and if it's just to chek my mail and read the news on the net....)

Greetings again from today sunny Innsbruck

If you're using an account with administration rights on this box and the results are these I'd say your Windows 2000 installation was corrupted before. I've seen this reported for Windows XP Pro, and after a clean install of Windows the Bluetooth worked fine.

well, even it wasn't a too encouraging reply, thanks!

what i did try was to "up-date" my W2k, but, until now, i didn't re-install the whole OS.
so you would say that only an up-date is not enough - i have to completely re-install my Windows 2000 (and therefore set upt the whole "machine" again :o( )

greetings from Innsbruck

Yes I know it's not a great thing to reinstall the whole platform... I had this kind of problems with Palm Desktop! Installing the software stopped at 50% and I only completed after reinstalling the OS.

On the Bluetooth front there are other similar reports here on Geekzone of missing services and most were solved with this terrible step of reinstalling the OS.

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem, the device is paired, but no services available.
My OS is XP home, and the USB BT Dongle is a Billionton one.
I hope to find out a quicker and easier way than the OS reinstall to solve this issue.
If I will I'll post it here.

One alternative I've seen around on the net was to create another Administrator level user on your machine, and install the software using that account. Then back on your original account the services should be there.

You might want to try this...

I followed your instructions: I created a new admin profile, logged in, clicked on the Bluetooth icon, and YES!! the services were there.
This is the good part. The bad one is that, back on the main profile, the situation was the same than before: no services. Of course changing the profile, is much MUCH better than re-install the OS.
Anyway, I think we are close the complete solution of the task. Should I try reinstall the BT one more time?
Thank you very very much for your precious suggestions
(would love to send you a fresh beer :-) )

Apparently you have to reinstall using the new user...
