Firstly, sorry if this problem is posted in wrong area as I'm a nooby.
Have just put wireless broadband on PC,all good, but then tried to transfer files from old PC(2006 HP Pavilion a1500a with XP)to new Laptop(Acer Aspire 5542G with Windows 7)Did everything as explained but was unsuccesful. Also found I had lost my internet connection on the PC,Laptop is still connected thankfully.
Rang the Telecom helpline, checked and changed a number of settings, turned off AntiVirus/Firewall +checked cables. But still no connection.Operator seemed to think the Network Adapter was at faultDoes anybody know if this is the case or could something else potentially be wrong and would it be possible for me to fix without getting a serviceman involved?

Your description is a bit confusing.....
So your Pc has wireless connection as well?
So you are trying to transfer files from Pc to laptop wirelessly? - is that right?
or is the PC connecting to an ADSL 2+ router - wireless or using cable?
Can the Pc go to the internet via Wire?

I afraid you will need to provide more details and what you are trying to achieve ........ like your laptop -- you said that your laptop is still connected -- is it to the internet or wirelessly connected to the ADSL router?

Sorry about that. Was trying not to get too bogged down with detail.
Thomson TG585 wireless modem is connected to PC with an ethernet cable, but Laptops wirelessly connected.
Was attempting to move old files to laptop wirelessly with Windows Easy Transfer,a small applications put on PC enabling you to move them over.I guess it would be easy if it worked.....
Loss of Internet on PC seemed to occur straight after this

Thanks Daman but sorted the problem out.Downloaded latest driver for network adapter off the laptop on to a flash drive, ran it on pc,restarted the modem and pc and all fixed.Obviously transfering files from XP to Windows7 wirelessly is risky with Windows Easy Transfer.

No, its just a coincidence that it failed at the same time, perhaps with the higher thruput that a local transfer does rather than just low speed internet usage that you have been using up till now.
