Hi,
I've got a D-Link Wireless ADSL Modem which i use with my Vodafone broadband connection. Unfortunatly it sometimes disconnects and my only option is to restart it. This is a real pain and i cant find any easy solution to it. I was once remotly working on a PC from outside and the internet disconected, which meant i had drive down and restart it 2:00 in the morning!

In the US there is something called an iBoot AutoPing which keeps on pinging say google and when it doesnt get a reply it power cycles the modem. I'm wondering if there is something available locally or if there is any other solution.

To be honest your best bet would be to dump the D-link and buy a decent modem.

What do you define as descent? There was a zyxel before the dlink but that crapped out.  The main load is from remotly viewing around 64 cctv camera feeds but thats not 24hrs. Couldnt the disconecting be because of a dodgy line which drops.

My 3Com Officeconnect is rock steady..... after power outages, line disconnections etc it comes up again.

It could be due to a faulty line, start with a replacement router (borrow one ?), that way if it still does it and you call your ISP, you can tell them youve tried multiple routers as thats probably the 1st thing theyll try blaming it on.

simple solution, get yourself one of those day/night light switcher off-ers from Dick Smiths or the Warehouse etc

and you can set it to go on and off at 2AM in the morning etc

What model/version is the D-Link? I would look firstly at updating the firmware on it to the latest version.
