Hi there,

I'm looking at getting a Microsoft Sidewinder X8 Bluetooth mouse, and an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard for my PC.

I was wondering, would the receiver for the Microsoft Sidewinder X8 work with the Apple Bluetooth keyboard as well? and then both simultaneously?

I rang Playtech and got mixed opinions as to whether it would work, but I'm not going to shell out $225 on a maybe.

Does anyone here know anything about this?

My understanding is that the receiver is a standard BT receiver, which in most cases take different devices as long as they are using different profiles.

Yeah, that was what I thought; but the staff at PlayTech seem to think different, they said that the receiver was specifically for, and programmed for, the Sidewinder mouse.. But then, one of the other staff members said no.. so I'm kind of caught in the middle since I have no idea myself.

Looking at the specs from the microsoft website, in combination with a review (http://www.notebookreview.com/...) it looks more to me that the mouse has "blue track" technology (blue lights/lasers instead of usual red led / laser) and has a "standard" 2.4Ghz USB wireless receiver.

If this is a typically wireless receiver, then it's not a bluetooth set, so you would need to get a bluetooth dongle to connect the apple keyboard.

If you're interested in using both, then be prepared to fork out for a bluetooth receiver (if there isn't one already on your computer).

Be aware as well that the apple keyboard has no windows key - and that in some cases the windows key will be mapped to a key physically located in a different position than normal - it can be disconcerting to touch typing. (I can't be any clearer than that sorry - no windows box handy).

But thanks for the link, at least I know which ones are bluetooth now, not that there is many :(

EDIT: oh, I know about the keyboard mapping - I used to have an old apple keyboard I was using + a mate of mine has a bluetooth wireless Apple keyboard that he was using on his Windows PC before he bought himself a Mac Mini
