Hi guys,

I have a problem with Bluetooth in XP SP2. Firstly, I've tried to reinstall XP SP2 via a repair installation but this hasn't worked and I still get the same error.

The problem is that when I try to apply any changes in the Bluetooth Devices Control Panel applet, an error message stating the following is displayed:

Bluetooth Service Error

An error occured while Windows was saving your settings. The following settings were not saved:

Discoverabilty Settings
Connection Settings.

As I mentioned I've tried to repair XP by doing a repair install which is successful but the issue remains.

Welcome to Geekzone... Could it be a registry problem? What happens if you create a new user (with Administrator rights) and do the same operation while logged in with this new identity?

Many thanks for the welcome and advice. I will try this in the next few days and get back to you with the results.

Last weekend, I installed a test copy of XP SP2 on a separate drive (same system) and everything worked fine so it is definitely something with this main install of XP - It could very well be registry related.

The thing is that I tried a Logitech MX5000 which was faulty and lagging really badly and I tried the Widcomm and MS stacks several times. I swapped it for a DiNovo laser which when I opened it, found it had a broken mouse. Again I tested with the Widcomm and MS stacks.

I've now got a good DiNovo Laser but when I try to use the MS stack, what I described happens. If I try to use Widcomm, the red and blue icon doesn't turn white and blue and the Logitech hub is detected as a generic usb hub and no drivers will install for it and it keeps returning a Code 10 if I try to install bluetooth drivers (either Widcomm or MS) for it.

The Setpoint Connection Wizard is basically freezing and so doesn't complete.

I've tried everything for reinstalls and so on, closing all background apps and doing it but it refuses to detect the bluetooth hub as a bluetooth hub and keeps calling it a generic usb hub.

You've guessed it though - It is definitely software related because on the test install I did of XP, all worked perfectly without any issues.
