Me and my friend have started a game server. He made his server on a router and ive been makin mine on a modem. He got his working but i havent. We have tried everything we can come up with and he suggested tat i should get a router or get a program tat acts like a router. Something like a virtual router. Ive googled but luck. If anyone knows any program, tutorial or know themselves how to do it then i would be wery greatful.
My Windows is Windows XP.

Me and my friend both made our own darkeden game private server. he used hes router ips and i used my modems ips. He got hes server working but i cant get mine working on the modem. We tried coming up with different ips for me but it just wont ping to the internet ( like www.google.com). He could help me getting mine working if i also have a router or use a program that makes my modem act like a router ( Something like a virtual router). So i was thinking tat does anyone know a program, tutorial or have experience with it so they could help us.

Basically you are saying you have a modem and you plug directly into the modem and want to connect your sever to the net?

1/ A modem is a modem

2/ A router is a router

3/ A Modem/Router combo is just that.

4/ You can plug your modem into a router and use the router as a switch if you want to have multiple, ethernet connections to the internet.

What your saying really doesn't make much sense. All I understand is that you want to HOST a server for a old MMORPG game. You really need to be more technically inclined to do such things. And if you did use google you will find the answer.

Unfortunately unlike games such as counterstrike there is no "noob" program that will setup the server for you. Has to all be done by you, at your end.

Let us know how you get on...im intrigued to hear how the haxing of the modem went with firmware 7.6102 on the router copper table turning works.. ;) ;)

If you want to make this server live to the public you should visit this site and create a public hostname.

My model number is: ACPS-101G Rev.B

Im hosting the server from my computer. I can connect to it but for some reson others cant. I checked all the ports tat must be open and there open. I tried to ping to google but it wont ping which means it doesnt connect to the internet.
A program wat i meant was one that will make my modem act like a router, something like a virtual router. i built the server in VMWare on Red hat Linux. The server works but as i already said others cant get to my server.

I forgot to say that the connection is bridged with my network adapter. And the IP i use in netconfig has last 3 digits changed from the correct one, because if i put the correct one it conflicts and its byebye internet.

I'm still confused. Can you please explain if I've got this correct.

Your friend / other players are sitting in their houses, or work, or wherever, on physically seperate internet connections to you.

You've got an ADSL connection that is plugged into your computer.

Your computer is running VMWare and hosts this server / application on a VM.

The VM shares the physical network link that your computer has.

Question : When you say you can successfully connect to the VM but others cant, what / how are you connecting?

i type a command in there this command: ping www.google.com. If it succeeds in connecting to the internet a loong list will start running across the screen. But if it fails it returns: 'ping: unknown host www.google.com'. I've tried to ping other pages but no luck. My real IP is 84.50.44.128 but i have it changed to 84.50.44.228 in netconfig. Cause if i put right there it will conflict and internet dies and have to restart modem or restart comp.

Ive tried a few layouts in netconfig:

IP  Address: 84.50.44.228

Submask: 255.255.255.0  and 255.255.252.0

Default Gateway: 84.50.44.128 and 84.50.44.1

Primary nameserver: 84.50.44.128 and 84.50.44.1

From the machine that you're having problems with

Can you ping the default gateway

Can you try and ping 4.2.2.1
