Hi I wonder if anyone can help me
Have x 3 computers networking- x 2 laptop and one desktop server (running win 2000!)
Laptop 1 running win7 ultimate and laptop2 running vista(haven't upgraded to 7 yet)
Problem is..recently I have not been able to connect to server with laptop 1 and therefore can not use briefcasing - can not even conect to mapped network drive or connect to server- says invalid username or password(have no problem connecting on laptop2 with same UN and Pw). can however connect to internet and can connect to laptop 1 from server desktop and can connect to server from laptop2.
I am also able to connect to a(main) database in server through another programme(use LP1 as workstation) although I can not connect to the briefcasing utility through the same programme....can not understand why? had disabled trend micro and the wins firewall on laptop 1 but no luck.
Network settings seem fine not changed anything, was able to do all this few days ago.
I believe there may be problem with the particular softwear i use on LP1 as it says liscence will expire in xx days....(LP2 does not have the softwear)
I would think problem would be either win7/this particular softwear as networking seems fine.
Also have a physical firewall/moden and a router
Any suggestions??- sorry not a comp geek but will try my best to answer any appropriate suggestions
cheers

Are you running on a domain...

what happens when you try browsing to \\servername\c$ from the laptops

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

Could you please post the exact wording of the error?

Also, could you post the results for and ipconfig /all run from a command prompt?

I do not think I'm on a domain- i just log on to local computer and could access server with a UN and PW untill few days ago. Techs for that particular softwear had been in at it for the last hour but no joy- says windows problem probably- to get a tech to fix the logging in issue then contact them.
Maybe things networking are not set properly. How hard can it be to get 2 or 3 computers to talk to each other through LAN and Wlan? Am running windows 2000 on server so shouldn't be too hard- but it is puzzling why i can not connect to server  now when it was perfectly ok few days ago(haven't changed anything)
Anyway seems may be windows issue.....so stuck at present..any help??....please!

Had the same problem yesterday
Good info at http://www.tannerwilliamson.com/2009/09/windows-7-seven-network-file-sharing-fix-samba-smb/

Win 7 HP/Starter etc needs to be modified manually as you found above in the registry. Pro/ultimate can be done using local security policy

thanks
Can anyone tell me why I was able to share files previously without doing anything...meaning without having to do all this stuff to registry or changing anythin on windows ultimate. it seems all was good ...without any problems for couple of months....until couple of weeks ago..when I could not (partially ) share my files on server????...bit puzzling..unless windows 7 updated anything..but then rolling back to previous restore date should have worked....somethings we may never know..;but glad that its working at present..
cheers
