I recently bought an Ipaq 2210, have set up bluetooth GPRS connection with my mobile phone and activesync via bluetooth with my PC which work fine. For some reason I am unable to connect via my NTL broadband connection on PC. I go through the process of setting it up on my IPaq and it seems to find the service on PC etc and set it up but then when I test in Internet Explorer on Ipaq I get a message 'can't connect' and get prompted for username and password (which shouldn't be needed). I've had a look at the things to check article here on this site but didn't notice anything I may need to change. I know Internet Connection Sharing is working fine on the host PC (running WinXP Pro) as other PC's are sharing it's connection already, my Ipaq is running Windows Mobile 2003 .........

If anyone has a few pointers I'd be appreciative as I've had enough now!!!!

Thanks...........

I'd ask about the firewall, again... But since you have some of other computers in your network using the bridge, the next thing to come is about the Bluetooth configuration.

When the iPaq is not connected, does a connection icon shows in your system tray say "cable unplugged"?

The bluetooth connection icon is showing in sys tray on PC and the funny thing is my Ipaq connects to the PC and the PC shows a successful connection from the Ipaq and Bluetooth Network then shows as connected in sys tray but when I launch Internet Explorer on Ipaq I get a page cannot be reached or an unknown error ... message. ICS is definately on and for the Bluetooth network, the host PC does have ZoneAlarm Pro installed, I did however swict off ZoneAlarm for the whole process from pairing the devices to testing the connection.

A couple of questions ... in the dial this number in Ipaq connection settings it shows as dial 'Connect' is this a default value to tell the IPaq it's not dialup connection? secondly, I don't have or need a username and password for this broadband connection but the Ipaq puts a password in for me in the connections settings?

I'm wondering now whether the Blutooth dongle is to blame, although it comes with Widcomm software and instructions for setting up internet connection with bluetooth PC broadband....

Thanks for the reply by the way.................

If it's showing the cable unplugged message your Bluetooth is not configured properly. When configured to share the Internet connection the adapter should always be connected. The unplugged status is only shown when the Bluetooth is configured to access LAN connections.

Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the System Tray, select Advanced Configuration, switch to the Services tab and double-click the Network Access. If it's not showing like the image below, please change it:

I can't see your image .... I can tell you that it's set to 'allow other devices to access the LAN/Internet via this computer...

Thanks..........

When in this configuration it shouldn't show the "network cable unplugged". If this is your case then something else is wrong with the installation itself - perhaps you could remove and install it again.

Before doing this, try clicking the button Configure Connection Sharing, check the configuration is ok (follow the Things to check again), and reboot.

Make sure there's no other devices with 192.168.0.x address on your network. And I'd still check Zone Alarm. I know it sounds strange, but even when it's OFF it's still active.

I'll try again maybe with ZoneAlarm uninstalled for the whole process.

'Make sure there's no other devices with 192.168.0.x' ... I'm not sure what you mean .. do you mean discconnect any computers from the local local network so there's only the host PC on?

Thanks for the help ... I'm off to bed ... it's 6.00 am here .. hopefully I'll sort it out tomorrow with a clear head!!

How fast will 512k broadband internet connection be via bluetooth? Is there a slow down or ceiliing on connection speed via bluetooth?

When I say to check there's no other 192.168.0.1 devices is just to make sure the Bluetooth adapter is the only one with this address. If other computer is assigned this address, then the connection may fail because of conflicts.

The speed should be ok. When I connect using my laptop it's fast enough to download Windows Update with it. Of course the Pocket PC will feel slower, but just because the overall machine is slower than a laptop or desktop.

reason I ask about the connection speed, is I was wondering whether to add bluetooth dongles to the other two client PC's and use evryting via bluetooth and and have less mess with network cables, is that practical?

If the other computers are not too distant, yes, it works. I use with a laptop at home - instead of pluging I use from the other room without problems.
