I have just bought a Palm T3 and at the same time a Belkin Bluetooth adaptor specifically to let me Hotsync from a 2nd PC.

I thought taht it would be easy to setup, but I get the same problem on 2 different PCs. I hit the 'Hotsync' button, and the "Hotsync Manager" gets launched on the PC, but it never gets beyond the "Connecting With Handheld" part of the sync.

I have tried EVERYTHING and have run out of ideas. The fact that I get the same problem on 2 PCs means that its either the Palm or the Bluetooth which is to blame.

I was hoping to get new drivers, but this is where the confusion starts.. My dongle was shipped with 1.3.2.7 and the files on the CD are dated Feb/March 2003.

But on Belkins web site, they have 1.2.2.9, but their date is May 2003.

Which of these is the newer version? I would assume that 1.3.2.7 is the latest, but is there anything newer.

I hope that there is a new version, as I am running out of ideas of how to get my BlueTooth Hotsync working!

1.3.2.7 would be the later release. It's the most widely available and supports the devices that you are trying to connect. Have a look at the Bluetooth Guides section on this site first, then post any questions.

I was afraid you would say that.

I have been playing with Hotsyncing Via Bluetooth with my new TV all weekend, and couldn't get it working.

Today I discovered the 'guided' and realised that I was doning it right..

My problem is that the 'HotSync' manager appaers, the Palm says "Identifying User" and the PC "Connecting to Handheld", but the sync never starts.

If I change the com port in my BlueTooth config so something else, it obviously doesn't even get this far.. Then, when I change HotSync to use this new COM port, its starts 'HotSync Manager' again, but it never does the Sync.

I have confirmation from several people that I am doing it right, but it just doesn't work for me.

I have tried the Same Bluetooth dongle on another PC and have the same results, so alteast I know that its not the PC... Its either the Palm or the Bluetooth which is to blame.

My next option is to go via a LAN/PPP connection, but I would like to get it working over 'serial' first.

I have run out of ideas now!

If this is the first time you've try to connect, do you by any chance have a firewall like ZoneAlarm running? If so, disable then attempt the connection again.

Nope.. NOthing like this.. This problem happens on 2 different PCs (XP and Win98) so I can safely rule out anything on the PC.

It must either by a T3 fault, a problem with the BlueTooth Dongle or the Bluetooth Drivers.

Its very frustrating.. I believed that it was more complicated than it was to get Hotsync working, but now I understand how its done (i.e by Emulating a Serial port), nothing could be simpler.

I don't even know where to start debugging the problem!!

The drivers you have are newer, even though the ones on the site have a later date.

Have you completed a HotSync over USB on this computer before doing over Bluetooth?

Do you have any other programs listening to the same COM port?

Following your description, seeing that HotSync says "Connecting to handheld" and the Palm says "Identifying user", I'd rule out problems on Bluetooth. It's just the same as a cable, and if the devices are talking to each other than it's ok on this front.

Perhaps on your Hotsync you should select the COM configuration and set the speed to a little lower? On the same way, do this on the Palm side as well.

Also, is this Bluetooth USB connected directly to your computer or to a USB HUB?

My Hotsync is working perfectly using USB.. Its jut the BT which is causing problems.

I moved COM ports many times and its the same on every port.

Just to prove that its sort of working, my Hotsync was using COM5 and so were the Bluetooth 'Serial Port Services'.

I changed the Bluetooth service to COM10, and then Hotsync wouldn't work at all.. Then I moved HotSync to COM10 and 'Hotsync Manager' started again, but stuck at the 'Connecting To Handhelp' stage again.

I have also tried various speeds, from 115K, right down to 9600.

Nothing is using the COM ports, but as I have used to different PCs (one with XP and the other Win98), it kind of rules any 'PC' based problem out!

My colleague (who also bought the same equipment has me) has told me that he couldn't get it working either using 1.3.2.7, but once he installed 1.2.2.9, but used the 1.3.2.7 drivers, he got it working.

I cracked it.. I deinstalled the 1.3.2.7 software that I came with the dongle, and installed the old (but current) software on Belkins website (1.2.2.9).

When I inserted my dongle, it didn't recognise the device so asked me for the drivers.. Now I used the ones on 1.3.2.7 CD.

So, I am running 1.2.2.9 software and 1.3.2.7 drivers.

This indicates that there must be a problem in the 1.3.2.7 software.. I wonder if this is why Belkin havn't updated their web site with these 'new' drivers?

It works nicely now. A little slow, which is not unexpected, but its very functional!
