I have read through the forums but can't find anything that fits my problem.

HP Pavilion laptop running XP SP3.

Bluetooth was installed and running from the factory but haven't used it in a while.  Now it just doesnt work.
All I want to do is get some tunes onto my new Nokia phone.

Connections icon in the taskbar shows Bluetooth and WLAN on and working, but no Bluetooth icon?  There is a "Local Area Connection 3" which looks like the 2 computers with a red X over them - when I click on properties is comes up as "Bluetooth Lan Access Server Driver" and "Network Cable Unplugged".

Under Bluetooth properties under the Control Panel everything looks to be working and device drivers wont update saying latest already used.

I have set the settings onto visible to all but my phone will still not find the computer, or visa versa.  When I try to send a file to the phone (Right click>send to>bluetooth) I can't click bluetooth...instead I have to walk right to another option called "Other..."  Clicking that I get an error message "Bluetooth Device not found".

I feel like I am doing something stupid like not having the switch on...but I have triple checked everything that I can find.

I know its a long-shot but any clues gratefully received.

Try having a play around with the HP software for turning wireless on and off,  its normally all linked together.

The HP Wireless Assistant is where you turn WiFi and Bluetooth on/off via software. Have you checked it?

Yep, turned that on and off a dozen times and restarted the computer just as many.  Done the same with the wireless switch on the front of the laptop.  Everything 'looks' to be working...the fact that there is no bluetooth symbol in the toolbar to me is odd.

And you are sure you had Blueetooth working before, as in you have actually used Bluetooth on this ltop to connect to another device?

Yep, worked a treat before, but honestly haven't used it for about a year so didn't miss it...until now!

Have put all the files I wanted on my work Toshiba and got them to the phone that way, so jobs done...still frustrates me as to why my HP's Bluetooth just wont work.  Maybe I should delete and reinstall the drivers?

Tried updating the driver using the Broadcom installer, but it failed at step 1 - Detect Bluetooth Device - got a red cross so I assume that means it could not find an active Bluetooth module. Hardware fault then perhaps?
