Am I the only one having this problem?

I cannot get my Belkin F8T001 USB dongle to work with my Windows2000 PCs. I've tried this on a Thinkpad i1300 and an Asus-based desktop. I install the drivers and connect the dongle and everything looks okay: device manager reports the new ports, the taskbar BT icon lights when I attach the dongle, and I can even detect my Tunsten T2.

The problem is that I cannot configure the dongle to enable services. I go throught configuration and set everything up but nothing happens. When I go back in the config program none of my settings were saved.

I contacted Belkin support who scratched their heads and directed me to Widcomm who's trying to fix it with the good 'ol 'uninstall and reinstall' recipe. No luck.

I've tried every driver I can get my hands on: 1.2.2.16, 1.3.2.27, and 1.4.1.4: it has to be my OS and I don't want to wipe my disk and throw on a fresh load.

I'm entertianing an outside possibility that I simply have a bad dongle -- I contacted Belkin to get a replacement -- but it doesn't seem like bad hardward: why aren't my setting saved?

Probably something you installed before changed your user autorisation or registry settings. Seem this before on Windows XP, but first time on Windows 2000.

Try creating a new user with administrator rights. Use this user to remove, reboot and reinstall the Bluetooth drivers. Should work after this.

It's working now but I'm not really sure why: I changed two things and either could have contributed.

First, I created a new user, as recommended above.

Second, I left the dongle attached during the romoval, reboot, and reinstall.

I'll look into this to resolve which it was.

Parenthetically, I did the 'remove and install' as an existing administrator user (not my typical account) with no improvements -- only after I created a brand new user account did anything happen.

Yep, that's the idea - something in the current Admin account's profile is not up to the standards... A fresh new account is all you need to have it up and running.
