I want to get a 3G router as my broadband solution.

But the problem is that most routers that I have found do not support common cards/modems.

I would ultimatly want to get an HSPA+ compatible 3G router - but if not available an HSDPA would do (I dont really need speeds to much higher I guess - but would be nice)

I would have got a dlink DIR-451 but it does not support the common modems and cards retailed here in NZ.

I have to have a 3G modem that has an external antenna socket as my reception is not good unless I use an antenna.

Does anybody know of a good 3G router that supports common cards. e.g. MF668. Or suggest a router and a good compatible card.

Thanks

Well this one looks pretty good: http://www.netcomm.com.au/netcomm-products/3g-mobile-broadband/3gt1wn but doesn't have a socket for an external antenna so not sure how viable it would be for you, but worth considering anyway. It does support the MF668 though (scroll to the bottom of the page for a list of supported sticks), and at last check on Price Spy was about $180.

Yes - that router does do what I want...... Can anybody clarify for me however what it actually means by the internal antenna..... because I think that it means that the antenna for the WIFI broadcast is the only internal bit... as the modem would receive the 3G signal for the internet, and if I used an MF668... I would attach the external antenna to the socket on the MF688... or when you plug in the modem does it take 'control' of the 3G signal as well????

If anyone knows please let me know.... Also if anyone has used this product could you please let me know how well it worked? Also regarding signal strength?

Thanks

I can't comment on its use, but yes once you stick your USB modem into it the internal antenna of the unit will handle the broadcasting of the wireless signal - the USB modem will do nothing more than receive the data from the 3G network.

Oh... Thats great then... It means that I could still run an external antenna as the MF668 has a port in order to add an external antenna onto it. As I am wanting to add the external antenna in order to get more 3G signal into the modem that can then be broadcast by the router... (have I got this right?)

Thanks again

I've just been down this route. We ended up with a Netcomm 3G17Wn . It seems to do most 3G sticks. Don't get the Netcomm 3G15Wn. It has as we discovered very little support for NZ 3G sticks..
