Hi all,

I have a question and hope someone can help me.

I have the above modem/router/wireless.

My set up at the momment is this. I have a wired network that feeds internet into four rooms of the house via a modem/router that is in the roof. It dosnt have wireless...

What I want to do is plug my dynalink into one of the rooms and use the wireless funtion on it so I dont have to be corded to the wall... I have tried and the light on the port I plug the cable into shows a conection to router in the roof and wireless on the Dynalink's is avablible and can be conected to... but when I try and conect to the web using wireless nothing happens (cant dispay page...) its like the dynalink connected to the network (that has the internet) but it wont send it out via wireless.

I'm sure it just some setting that I dont know about... Can anyone help?

Thanks

Probably your Wireless AP's Ethernet Port is handing out DHCP addresses that have nothing to do with the IP Address your ADSL router is handing out.

And what I've just said probably makes no sense at all :) I guess (without knowing your devices) that you're trying to join two networks together in a way they're not configured for.

You want to configure your Wireless AP to ensure it's bridging your Wireless and your Ethernet ports together, plus you have to be sure that it's not attempting to assign your laptop an address (That should be done by your ADSL box)

Ugh I'm sorry, I know exactly what I mean, but writing it into words isn't exactly working as I'd have liked!

What happens from your Wireless connected laptop if you try and ping a domain name (i.e. geekzone.co.nz) Do you get an IP address, or does DNS fail totally?

Tim

Thanks Tim,

Yes i do kind of know what you are saying. But not enough knowledge on my part to made the two talk to each other in the right way......... HOWEVER, in saying that... i did a diagnose problems on the network, it didn’t work the first time and even the second time. but i started watching some tv and the next time i looked at the diagram that shows my laptop to wireless to internet the X was not there between the wireless and the internet. I don’t know what happened or how it happened, but it works now! exactly what i want it to do. So all good!

Thanks for your time trying to explain to me what might be happening

Cheers
Paul :-)

Glad it's working. I wonder if your Wireless device is also giving out DHCP and thus "fighting" with your ADSL router.

Good luck!

Here are the basic steps for configuring this so it works reliably.

Plug into the modem/router in the roof and login to the admin ui...

- The LAN ip address of the modem/router in the roof will probably be 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

- So you want to change the DHCP range given out by the modem/router in the roof to start from x.x.x.3 (we are going to use x.x.x.2 for the 1025W)

- Save

Next plug into the 1025W...

- Change the LAN ip address to be x.x.x.2 (where x = in the same range as the other modem/router in the roof)

- Disable DHCP

- Save

Here's an example (assuming your modem/router in the roof is using the 192.168.0.x range)

See, that's what I was missing!

Nice done Ragnor!
