I need a GPS unit that I can wear while walking in Wellington City. After the walk, I need to be able to upload the stats into a map format that will easily show which streets I walked on, how far I walked and how long it took.
I’d also like to use the unit to locate addresses within Wellington.
Which GPS unit and map software should I buy?

Welcome to Geekzone... Does it have to be a GPS or could it be a Pocket PC?

In any case (either a stand alone GPS unit, a custom Pocket PC, or your own Pocket PC with the software and external GPS), the best source would be Navman. They are well known in the location services market, and they are based in New Zealand (Auckland).

I am currently using the Navman SmartST software (New Zealand edition) on an old Pocket PC with a Bluetooth GPS and it works really well - but the current version (3.0) won't run on Windows Mobile 5 devices.

The SmartST software is available with New Zealand, Australia, USA and UK maps.

The software records your routes, but I am not sure how you export it - perhaps you could ask the Navman support if this is available? They are quite good in replying quickly.
