Help! I'm having real problems, Widcom 1.3.2.7 software hangs on install @ 'configuring bluetooth...' Have to then use Task manager to get out. Tried Mauricio's excellent tip from an earlier post of creating a new user account; but no good. I had to manually uninstall as that hangs too (no surprise), and manually edit the registry. Done all the sensible things, shut firewall ,A.V, Norton utilitys etc; tried with dongle out as recommended, and with it in.
Opsys is 2000 pro service pack 4. Dongle is a CC&C (Cambridge Silicon BC2-EXT2)
Realtek ethernet to a Linksys Cable/DSL router. Other USB devices Lexmark Z25 printer and D-Link FM radio and all the latest drivers.
I know that there have been problems with service pack 4 I wonder if that's related?
Any suggestions please?
Thanks

Is this the only software you have problems with? I had this kind of problem on an old Windows 2000 machine, when tried to install the Palm Desktop on it... I couldn't solve the problem, even with a Microsoft Support person involved (my Windows 2000 installation is covered with some support options).

I ended up reinstalling the OS on that machine - that solved the problem.

Thanks for getting back. Not noticed any Mauricio, and there's quite a bit on this box; everything else seems to work fine. Guess I'd rather not do an install if I can avoid it!

Mike,

I've had the same problem and have seen this before. I noted some mixed success by deleting several registry entries that corrupts the install, but I can't seem to locate the specific edits.

As a last ditch effort, try searching your registry for value "bt" and "widcomm". You can delete anything related to "widcomm", but be sure "bt" relates to bluetooth install. The file names aren't always obvious.

Unfortunately, the installation is corrupt and only a re-install of the OS will clear up the problem at this point, since Mauricio's suggestion doesn't work. Not fun, I just went through one a couple of weeks ago.
