Hi,

Been at uni and when I get home for the holidays, no one can get wireless to work on their laptops. Currently we are running 4 laptops, 2 with vista, 1 with windows 7 and 1 macbook. The only way any of us can get wireless is if I set the security on our belkin wireless router to "disabled". Anything I try, WPA, WEP whatever just shuts everyone out and none of the computers will connect, even when the correct password is entered. Could someone guide me through setting up the network securely? I do not want to leave for uni leaving the wireless unprotected (out neighbours wouldnt use it but you never know...)

Thanks in advance

Maybe someone's enabled MAC filtering?

What is that and how would I disable it?

I'd also say it's MAC address filtering. You should find it in the wireless section of your router setup. Just disable it.

It isn't MAC filtering. The check box to enable it is unchecked, and there are no IP addresses listed

reset to default and start all over again. sounds like software issue. and I would use hidden button to reset to manufacturer's settings.

Also, update the firmware of the device from the belkin website. Updated firmware can fix strange issues like this.

If its the model I am thinking of they do this, I have had experience of this with certain models of Belkin, the security sometimes goes for a time, then it blocks users, if you reset the key it will play ball for awhile, then an hour or two latter mysteriously refuses access.

I would see if you can update the firmware see if that fixs it, otherwise do what I eventually did (well I got rid of it, but before that) and leave it open and run mac filtering, not very secure but will stop all but spotty faced herberts with a geek bent from getting in.
