Hey, can't find the answer on Google or GZ so hope this is in the right place!

Quite simply, I need to open some ports for a game to work.  Ports are 11235-11335.

I have done/tried the following:

  • forwarding ports in modem

  • turning off and adding exceptions in windows firewall

  • uninstalling antivirus

  • checking with Telecom that they don't block these ports

And yet the ports are still not open (as per canyouseeme.org, Portforward's checking tool and the fact I am having connectivity issues).  Any ideas?  Running Windows7, can provide other info if required.

just because you open the ports, doenst mean that anything will be listening on them. if you're not running your game at the time you run the canyouseeme site, it probably wont report them as open.

does the game itself have a port tester?

if you want to use a site like that, perhaps grab a too like ncat and configure it to listen on the port/range.

e.g.
http://nmap.org/ncat/man.html
ncat --listen 11235

NB: you might have to disable your antivirus or it might detect ncat as a rootkit or other nasty.... on its own, its not a threat, but its commonly used in malware/scripts.

Have done tests with game on.  The Portfoward tool supposedly doesn't need the game open, but have anyway.

Nope

Downloaded.  When I put that string into the command box I cant tell if it worked or not.  My reading was that the command may be -p11235?

I have uninstalled AVG for purposes of testing, so now antivirus on PC now.

sorry, you need to run ncat to listen on the port, then run the checker from your web app to test to see if the port is open.

if you want to use ncat to test the port, you would need to have two copies, one local and one remote.

if you want to see what ports are currently "listening" on your pc, run "netstat -a -n"

Haven't played anything since this post, too busy!

Anyway, found a work around inside the game. Not ideal but it will do. Cheers for the help anyway!
