I'm running a Dick Smith 802.11b PCMCIA card on Linux and getting lots of grief.
I've only been able to get it to work at all on RedHat 7.1. I've tried RedHat 7.3 and 8 and I've tried various versions of the Atmel driver that it uses but it's still unstable.
To get it to work at all on 7.1 I had to hard code my WLAN settings into the device driver and recompile it. Has anyone got this card to work on Linux so it will accept scriptable settings. It doesn't work with IWCONFIG for me! It also needs to be manually told to actually scan the network on boot-up using the lvnet program, which is also not scriptable. And just to make it perfect, it freezes occasionally and the only way to get the card to work properly again is reboot.
