Hi,

I am using a Netgear DG834N Router, and suffer from pauses during my internet surfing.

When I click on a link not much really happens, my browser (chrome) says that its waiting for the page to load.  All the lights on the router are on, but not flashing, The pauses last up to five minutes,  But i don't get any time outs? I can't log into the router either??

And its an intermittent problem (the best kind)

Any suggestions on what to try/look for??

Windows 7 64bit, Xnet as ISP

Thanks

Are you connecting wirelessly to the router or via ethernet?

As you are using Windows 7, does the network icon give you any clues?

A possible reason that it takes five minutes for the page to load and not time out could be due to interference on the wireless channel you are operating on. Data corruption could be causing the packets needing to be constantly resent.

Hi,

I connect via ethernet and my wife uses a  wireless conection.  The issue has happened on both machines, they seem to loose there connection to the router.

My gut feeling is that my router is on its way out.

With you unable to communicate via ethernet I suspect that you are correct.

It could be worthwhile checking for a firmware update at http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/family/a_id/1290 for your model. Sometimes this can revive a router that is starting to play up.

Also often that sort of intermittent behavior is related to an issue with the power supply/adapter or something like that. Worth checking.

Hi, I had an example of one of these modems doing a very similar thing the other day, it was if it had a DNS issue, like a delay in contacting the DNS server the result was when you went to a page it would wait ages, and the browser would indicate that it was waiting for DNS service, after a period it would download the payload with good speed but often it would pause as it pulled up the next IP details of some element within the page then load it.

In the end I simply replaced it with a TP-8840 from the van, instant fix, customer happy after months of frustration.

I have not investigated further I have decided both I and the customer had spent too much of our lives trying to workout what was happening that we had no more time to spend on a $70 part that was broken, but a firmware upgrade may be the go, I am presuming some aspect of the NAT router is not as it should.
