I have a DSE XH9948 4 port and a Belkin 54g... I have set the Belkin up as an access point and it works sweet Is it at all possible to use the dse to recive internet on a non wireless computer. I have a Modem and wireless router In one room. and would like to set up the desktop in the other room and recive the net. Can I do it myself or would it be easier to by an wireless card?

Hi, I dont belive the XH9948 can be configured as a wireless client (which is what I suspect you are asking) best you get a wireless interface for the remote PC.

How far apart are the two pc's, if you can run a cable by whatever means its much superiour to wireless, othewise if you must go for wireless then get a card that goes in the PC rather than a USB device, most USB wireless devices are rather lacking.

Cards in the PC will have the antenna shielded by the case so often will not work that well when a USB device can be lifted up quite a but.

There are some nice reference design USB wireless devices on dealextreme for a decent price...

Hi, thats true, but most if not all card wireless devices have an external antenna, infact I have never seen one without.

Experience with these tells me that a card wireless adaptor with an antenna works much much better than most USB dongles with a poor performance PCB antenna.

But hey, I probably know diddly squat.

Cheers

Yeah, if you lift the PC up off the floor and face it towards the signal they work great, but IME, the floor to the desk height is the difference between working well and barely holding the signal. Not had a problem with several of the cheap USB devices that I have used. You could get a PCI card and a wire and a high gain antenna, but thats just going to push the cost up even more, and need 3 of them if its an 802.11n card.

Fair enough, but I normally put a mag mount whip on top of the PC to try overcome all these issues.

But in the end, nothing beats a cable, cheap and chearfull :)

ummmmm you need to spec a more exact model number than that, even right down to the sub version.
