Hi, sorry for a very basic question but am not tech savvy... the place where I stay, all apartments are provided internet, I bought the Linksys WAG120N ADSL2+ to set up wifi, but after set up it's asking me for a user name and password, I don't have any u/name or pwd, have I bought a wrong type of modem/router? please help....

Yes you probably have bought the wrong type of modem/router.

Try plugging your computer directly into the wall, there should be a network port there. If you want a WIFI network then you probably need a wireless access point. The people who manage your apartments should be able to tell you what you need.
