Hey guys,

Ive just changed over from TELECOM to TELSTRA for ISP.
Every thing with my modem/router was perfect with telecom.
Since the change over with TELSTRA, ive been having problems with getting the ADSL and INTERNET light to stay on. I will get a good 15-20minutes of connection and then it will just lag out and reconnect after 2-3 minutes,

Ive used the modem supplied by TELSTRA and that works fine no problems.
I have a desktop, laptop and 2 xbox 360s connected online. (on both TELSTRA  and TELECOM ISP)
Filters on all telephone jacks. Phone works while im on the net.

HELP ? PLEASE ?

Specs are as followed:

Belkin ADSL2+ modem with wireless G router model numberF5D7633au4A
Conection type is PPPOA
Username is correct
password is correct
IP assigned by ISP
VPI/VCI 0/100
Encapsulation  VC MUX
Dial on demand is TICKED
Idle time is ZERO
MTU is 1432

I am about to drop kick my modem over the fence very soon. So anyones help will be greatly appreciated.

try unticking dial on demand. somtimes if you have that ticked it may not like it. if you get for example 15mins in no activity it will drop the connection and reconect when you try to get the net.

Im just guessing that this could be your problem but it could be worth a shot as no body else has any suggestions

Hu? did i do that?

What does the modem report for line stats, ie sync rate, attenuation, noise margin.

Also the MTU should be set to 1500, dont know why these modems have these silly low MTU with PPPoA

Also are you on a ULL exchange, Telstra have moved into quite a number of exchanges, if you are and you should be on a cabinet then that may explain this issue.

Telecom have never used PPPoE, so maybe your modems firmware is shagged or in need of upgrading, or maybe you were mistaken and you were actually using PPPoA in the first place, infact I would put a bet on it, Telecom DSLAMS have never been setup to support PPPoE only PPPoA.

Not farmiliar with your modem, but if you hunt around you should find the DSL status page.

Hi Boss, the details will be in there, and they need to be found if you want more help from me. But I suggest you do an isolation test, so remove all the filters and phones, disconnect everything from the phone line, phones, fax's, sky boxs etc and see what the data rate is. Also do you have a central alarm.

Hi and sorry if this has already been brought up or if it's not relevant ... but are you on Telstra cable now? If so your old Telecom unit won't work any more. Your modem/router needs to be ok for use with cable.

I had the same thing (pretty sure I had that exact Belkin model as well from Telecom) then I switched over to Telstra cable and tried to use it. It would seem to work ok for a short while then give up. Then I bought a new NetGear one specifically for cable and it's fine now.

I suggest if he can get that much then its a good chance its not cable, TCL have significantly more ADSL customers than cable.

I dunno, mine would actually generally work fine until I turned my PS3 on as well. That would then take over and I'd lose my connection on my PC. Because it actually worked half-decently it confused the hell out of me for a while. But yeah, it would help for kantthinkovaname to confirm it :)
