Hi there i have two wireless routers

I have a dynalink RTA1025w which i got from my ISP

And a TP-Link wireless router

My current setup is the dynalink modem router with dhcp enabled connected to my TP Link with dhcp disabled from the LAN port To the Lan Port on the TP-Link Router

What i would Prefer is having it connected from the LAN port to the WAN port on the TP Link router

i have tried plugging it into the WAN port instead but i have no network or internet access i have tried rebooting both routers and also reset them to factory then changed the settings but it still wont work

What is the problem?

That won't work.

That's because the WAN port on your 2nd router is for plugging into a modem. (The WAN port is for doing NAT onto the LAN ports)
If you disable DHCP on the TPlink and plug a lan port from the dynalink into the TPLinks WAN port, the TPlink won't be giving out IPs/it's gateway address so anything plugged into it isn't going to work.

You need to just leave the dynalink connected to a LAN port on the TP link. (That way it's not doing any routerish things)

Unless you want to configure the RTA1025 in half bridge (and not use the wireless on it) you current setup "WAN Bypass" is the best solution for two routers on one ip address range/subnet

The alternative is set them up on different subnets but means double NAT which is worse imo.

And ok so is it not possible to share an internet connection using the wan port on the tp link router

Hi Tiger as Ragnor says unless you half bridge the RTA you cannot, but to be honest to use the current setup has no real disadvantage to any other, why would you want to change.

Some wireless routers have "AP point only" mode, where the WAN port can be used like this without double nat'ing.

Hmmm, I would just threaten them with family war, but that might not be suitable in your situation :)

Double Nating while not desirable will probably not be too much on an issue for that type of situation. Set the WAN port back to DHCP turn on the DHCP server, and let it run, that way the TP link NAT router and domain filtering will be in place, afterwards put it back as you want.

You could half bridge the Dynalink, but its a bit more phaffing about

If you can install DD-wrt on your router then this thread might be helpful
