I have noticed a strange thing just now. Well its strange to me because I dont know about these things.

I have the ip of a server in Sydney and another in Brisbane that i was doing ping tests on from home.

At home i was getting pings averaging 52ms to Sydney and 84ms to Brisbane.

I jumped on the computer at work just now and tried the same ping tests.

Sydney: 90ms
Brisbane: 240ms

OK, I thought, fair enough, it was 7am this morning when i tested at home and now its busy time both here and there so its going to be longer.

I tested this by using teamviewer to access home computer at same time as work computer and doing ping tests to both servers again (not at same time though)

From home:
Sydney: 56ms
Brisbane: 74ms

from work:
Sydney: 91
Brisbane: 241

ALL ping times are average.

Why the difference?
I did tracert on sydney server from work and home and home was 12 hops and work was 13 hops.

Internet at home is Snap and at work is telstraclear.

is it the work configuration that makes it slower or is it the internet provider?

I really dont know.

Do a tracert and post here. You will see different routes, different times between the devices on the network.

If you check response time for each hop on the network, you can see where it starts to slow down. Maybe Telstra's network is busier... might be a different comparison in evening (peak for residential, offpeak for business).

Time to find a new industry!

Also you may find that your Snap connection is optimised for low ping times usefull for gamers but not so much for downloading large files.
