Looks like alot of peeps are having fun with Telecom's modem of choice.

I switch to telecom from the awful Orcon service a couple of months ago. Telecom gave me a shiny new TG585v8. I was feeling a bit ill when it arrived so I just plugged it in and off it went.

I now wish to set the thing up properly, with all my devices having static ips with port forwarding etc. The thing is I can not see how to stitch off the DHCP server option in the routers menu (which has to be one of the worst I've played with).

I spoke to a guy at Telecom, who couldn't understand that I didn't want a static IP on the internet, that I just wanted to set one up for my devices.

Can anyone help me?

Type dsldevice.lan into the address bar, then press Home Network, select Devices (under the Telecom logo), click on the device you want to have a static ip, and press Configure (right hand side of the page, 1/4 of the way down. Select "Always use the same IP address".

Yeah, I found that, but it is still using the routers DHCP to assign an IP. I'm looking to switch that off and assign the ip address manually at the device end (i.e. within the windows network settings).

Try the following:

Home Network > Interfaces > LocalNetwork > Configure

Untick "Use DHCP Server"

I hope that works ...

Cheers mate, that page was exactly what I was looking for. Why the Thomson menu has to be so esoteric is beyond me.

Thanks again!
