So lately ive seen these threads becoming more common... Asking if your ADSL stats are 'good'. And seeing as I dont really know what they should be im not too sure if mine could be better...

Im about 450m to the nearest fibre fed cabinet.
I have a D-Link G604T.

These are the stats off my router:

Are these 'good' or could I improve them.

The house is older and I suspect that if they could be better this might be the source of the problem... I have plug in filters on eveything in the house.

If your are actually connected to that cabinet then your downstream should have closer to 15dB attenuation and 15000kbps, but your phone line may be connected to somewhere else 3km away -- or just have a fault. Have you already checked your house wiring and tried other jackpoints?

Attenuation is a measure of signal loss, usually caused by line resistance on a long line.

Time to find a new industry!

When the chorus guy was running fibre over to the office opposite the house he had to come in and check something out with our line and I asked him which cabinet we are connected to and he said that we were connected to the one around the corner by the round-about... Of which there is only one of... So I cant see us being connected to a different cabinet / directly to the exchange.

But when looking at the telecom Wholesale maps it shows that that cabinets coverage area stops just before my house... and after selecting all of the cabinets none are over my house completely... So I guess im connected directly to the exchange... Have no idea where it is... How can I find out how far away it is?

How do I 'check' the house wiring... Ive checked that its not damaged etc... But thats about my limit... Yip, Ive used all of the jacks... They all have the same result.

Hi, best way to check if your house wiring is impacting is to go to the demarc or where ever the leadin from the street connects, then disconnect all the house wiring from the leadin, connect a socket to the leadin and pop your modem on it and see what the stats are.

If the leadin/demarc is up in the eave then maybe get in the roof and determine which socket it goes to first. If more than one line leaves the demarc and goes off in more than one direction then you will need to disconnect those so you only have one line leaving the demarc.

Ultimately in service you need a single clean transmission line to your modem from the demarc, and at some point all the house wiring thats connecting all the phone sockets couples to that line via a central filter, this will give you a working system thats as close to directly connecting just the modem to the demarc.

If the reported 39dB is an accurate reflection of the line length (roughly 2.8km) then 7Mb/s is probably close to what you should expect, but its well worth doing the full isolation test as explained above to see if there is more to be rung out.
